Time tracking

Draft. This page is written from the product plan and has not been checked against a release.

Time is for members, admins and staff. Clients see it only in projects that switch on “Clients can see time and estimates”, and they cannot log or change it. See client access.

Logging time #

On an issue, open the Time section and fill in Log time: a duration, the date (today by default) and an optional note. You can edit or delete your own entries in place.

Write durations as 30m, 1h 30m, 1.5h or 1d 4h. Always include a unit. A day is 8 hours, so 1d is 8h.

Estimate and remaining #

The issue sidebar has an estimate (level of effort), Remaining and Logged. Unless you set it, Remaining is the estimate minus the time logged, never below zero. If you edit Remaining, your value is used instead, and Reset brings back the calculated one.

The report #

The Time page in a project shows one row per person and issue with time logged in the date range, with a totals row. It starts with this month. The quick range buttons cover this and last week (weeks start on Monday), this and last month, the last 30 days, this and last quarter, and the year to date.

  • Saved ranges are named monthly cycles that run from a start day of the month (1 to 28) to the day before it in the next month, for example the 20th to the 19th. Save range adds one for the whole project, and the remove button on its pill deletes it. This is how you match a client’s billing cycle.
  • Click a column header to sort. The Person select narrows the report to one person.
  • Export CSV downloads the table as shown, and Export entries downloads one line per time entry.
  • The Calendar view next to Report shows a month grid with each entry, daily totals and weekly totals. Click a day number to open the report for that day.
